Lawrence Morrish

Larry Morrish
Community Leader
Personal History
Larry Morrish is someone who can always be counted on to help. He has certainly not forgotten Fort Hamilton High School when it needs help. Larry helped establish the first Junior ROTC program in any New York City public high school at Fort Hamilton. He also was able to bring together community groups to raise $4,000 for the Fort Hamilton High School Scoreboard. Larry also helped raise funds for the backboards in both the Boys' and Girls' Gymnasiums.
However, Larry has not limited his community service to Fort Hamilton High School. Indeed, he has only been able to help the school because of his leadership position in the community. Larry was a founding member of BRAVO - which he continues to serve. He volunteers with the 68th Precinct Youth Council and the other 68th Precinct activities. He has been a leader of the Bay Ridge Men's Club from 1976 to the present and was president from 1983 through 1985. He served 10 years as Chairman of the Victory Memorial Hospital Advisory Board, from 1981 to 1991. Larry served six years on the Board of directors of the Bay Ridge Community Council and was the recipient of the prestigious Bay Ridge Community Council Civic Award in 1990. Larry has served as a member of the Fifth Avenue Board of Trade from 1990 to the present and the Seaview Hospital Advisory Board from 1990 to 1993.
Larry is a founding member of the Bay Ridge Parks and Waterfront Council. Larry is a member of the Board of Trustees of Adelphi Academy from since 1995. Larry is also a member of the Third Avenue Merchants' Association and a Founding member of the Saint Patrick's Parade Committee. Larry enjoys particular distinction as the Civilian-Military Liaison for the Metropolitan Area for all five services.
Larry has received the Public Service Medal from the United States Secretary of Defense, the United States Coast Guard Public Service Medal, the Ragamuffin Man of the Year Award and the Kiwanis Man of the Year Award. He has been honored by Mayors Ed Koch and David Dinkins and by Governor Mario Cuomo as well as by President Ronald Reagan and Congresswoman Susan Molinari.
But what makes Larry special is that he is helpful to all people who need his assistance and he gives that help gladly. It is with pride that we induct Larry Morrish into the Alumni Hall of Fame.
