Personal History
Royce Watson started his professional career following his graduation from Fort Hamilton High School in 1950 and after attending Wagner College, receiving a BS from the University of Maimi, a tour of duty with the USMC and ASCP certification. This career included holding important positions such as Director of Clinical and Anatomical Laboratories and Blood Bank (Dade County Hospital), Coordinator of Health Services Planning - Office of the Governor of Florida and lastly a federal position as a Chief Advisor in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health and Surgeon General (DHHS).
While at these positions, Royce Watson also received a BBA and MBA, (U.M.), pursued work on a PhD (FS) and received a certificate from Johns Hopkins University in International Health.
Mr. Watson received several major awards in the 1980's: Member of the Year - American Society for Medical Technology; Lamb Award - United Lutheran Church in America; Chevalier - Order of DeMolay; Cross of Color - Rainbow Girls; Master Mason of the Year - Grand Lodge of Maryland.
Mr. Watson's other interests include: working with youth (Boy Scouts, DeMolay, Jobs Daughters, Rainbow Girls); scuba diving; skiing; gardening; and travel (Mr. Watson has traveled extensively around the world - many times as an official delegate from U.S. to health conferences). Royce Watson has also volunteered his time with many organizations, including service as President and/or Officer at the national, state and local levels, and service on boards of directors of other groups such as the National Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Watson is also an Ordained Deacon in the Lutheran Church, a 32 degree Master Mason and a Past R.W. Master.
Last, but very definitely not least, Royce is married to the former Edith Christine Luik and have three great children, Paul, Gayle, and Jeanne.
The Alumni Association is proud to recognize Royce Watson's accomplishments by his induction as a charter member into the Alumni Hall of Fame.
