Joseph Keeler

A proud graduate of Fort Hamilton High School, Joseph Keeler’s journey is defined by a profound dedication to both his family and his community. While his academic path at City College of New York was cut short so he could support his family during his father's illness, Joseph channeled that same sense of responsibility into a trailblazing career in chemistry.
A Pioneer in Research & Development
Joseph’s professional trajectory began at IPI in Manhattan before he transitioned to a landmark tenure as a Research Chemist at Claremont in Long Island. A true innovator, he holds a place in history for inventing the erasable ink for Bic and the water-based color coatings for Band-Aids—technologies used by millions every day. His expertise eventually led him to serve as Technical Director at Custom Chemical before concluding a stellar career at Penn Color.
The Architect of Modern Bay Ridge
Beyond the lab, Joseph’s heart has always belonged to Bay Ridge. As President of Community Board 10, he was a driving force behind the pillars of our neighborhood. His leadership was instrumental in:
The birth of BRAVO: Establishing the Bay Ridge Ambulance Volunteer Organization.
The 69th Street Pier: Spearheading the total rebuild of this iconic waterfront landmark.
Shore Hill: Championing the fight for high-quality, affordable senior housing.
A Lifetime of Brotherhood and Family
For the past 52 years, Joseph has been a dedicated member of the Free and Accepted Masons, embodying the values of brotherhood and charity. Today, he continues to reside in the community he helped build, where he is the proud father of two and a doting grandfather to five amazing grandchildren.
