The Dr. Alice B. Farkouh Memorial Scholarship

Frequency: Annual

Deadline: May 24, 2026​

Purpose

This scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Alice B. Farkouh, a visionary leader and former Principal of Fort Hamilton High School. Dr. Farkouh believed that every student possessed the potential to reach the "highest star." She championed modernization, school spirit, and the unwavering belief that no student should ever be told, "You can’t do it." This award supports a graduating senior who embodies her resilience, leadership, and pride in the Fort Hamilton community.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

 * Enrollment: Must be a graduating senior at Fort Hamilton High School in good academic standing.

 

 * School Involvement: Active participation in one of the programs Dr. Farkouh pioneered or championed, including but not limited to:

 

   * Army Jr. ROTC or the Marching Regiment.

 

   * Culinary Arts or Law/Legal Studies.

 

   * Varsity or Jr. Varsity Athletics (specifically Football or Swimming).

 

 * Character: Demonstrates "Tiger Pride" through leadership, grace under pressure, and a commitment to uplifting their peers.

 

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a personal essay in a 2-minute video addressing the following:

 * Overcoming Challenges: Dr. Farkouh led the school through periods of crisis with perseverance. Describe a time you faced a significant obstacle and how you maintained a positive focus to overcome it.

 

 * Community Impact: Dr. Farkouh believed "No man is an island." How have you contributed to the "Fort" family or your local community to make it a better place for others?

 

 * Future Aspirations: How do you plan to reach for your "highest star" after graduation, and how has your time at Fort Hamilton prepared you for that journey?

 

Selection Process

The scholarship committee will look for candidates who demonstrate a "can-do" attitude and a deep sense of self-esteem and pride in their city and school—values Dr. Farkouh considered the keys to a meaningful life. Winner will be announced by June 6, 2026.
