Christine Poulos-Tettonis

​Christina Tettonis is honored to be principal of The Hellenic Classical Charter School (HCCS) located in Park Slope, Brooklyn. She is proud to be leading a K - 8 public school that gives her students the opportunity to learn the Greek language, culture and history. Under her leadership, in February 2010 HCCS was awarded a full 5 year charter renewal by the New York State Education Board of Regents. Her school has established strong partnerships with countless organizations such as The Greek Ministry of Education, The Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University, The Center for Educational Innovation-Public Education, Studio in a School, The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Common Cents and the Brooklyn Public Library.

Christina was principal of Public School 170 The Lexington School located in Brooklyn, New York Region 7 for the Department of Education from 2002 - 2007. During her five years as principal, PS 170 earned a number of awards and grants. Of the many outstanding achievements, Christina led a school that received recognition from the New York State Education Department as a High Performing/Gap Closing School and the "NYSELAT - Closing the Achievement Gap School" in 2005. She implemented the America's Choice School Design and was invited to be the keynote speaker at the 2007 America's Choice National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a member of the Region 7 Professional Development Task Force for Principals and PS 170 was a mentor site for academic intervention services and named a New York City Exemplary School for the Arts. Christina worked closely with the Church Avenue Merchant's Benevolent Association to create one ot [sic] the best after school programs in the city. She was a member of the TASC Principal's Advisory Group and was featured in their 2006 Seven Year Report.

 

In 1997 she was appointed as Director of the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program for Community School District 20. She directed the planning, curriculum development, implementation and activities that services children in thirty schools. Christina also developed the District 20 Tapestry Programs and coordinated the district's child abduction prevention program.

Christina is currently an executive board member for the Brooklyn Public Library. She was appointed to this position by the Brooklyn Borough President in 2009. She most recently adopted the Dyker Public Library branch and helped raise funds for the Support Our Shelves campaign.

Christina was selected as a 2007 fellow for The Cahn Fellows Program for Distinguished New York City Principals at Teachers College, Columbia University. She has been an active alumnus and sits on the Cahn Fellows alumni committee. She is also a member of the New York Academy of Public Education.

Christina is supported in all her accomplishments by her husband, Mark and her twin sons, Konstantine and Vasili.
