Personal History
Since graduating from Fort Hamilton High School in 1959, Edward S. Bittar has had a career of distinction. He attended Rutgers University and graduated with a B.A. degree in 1963. Subsequently he attended Temple University School of Medicine and received an MD degree in 1978. 1978 was a big year for Dr. Bittar as he also received a Ph.D. from New York University/Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Having attained these academic distinctions, Dr. Bittar was quick to put his skills and talents to good use. He had an internship and residency at the University of Florida Department of Orthopedics. This was followed by a fellowship in Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia.
Dr. Bittar has distinguished himself as both a scholar and a practicing physician. He served as Associate Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics of the University of Florida from 1986 to 1987. He has been a professor of Clinical Orthopedics since 1996. He has numerous publications which would require several pages to enumerate. Dr. Bittar has served as team physician to the University of Florida from 1984 - 1987, the Florida Institute of technology from 1989 to the present, the Florida Marlins baseball team from 1992 to the present and the Florida Manatees from 1993 to the present.
Dr. Bittar is also an active member of many professional organizations. Among these are the following: Fellow American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Florida Orthopedic Society, Florida Medical Society, Brevard County Medical Society, American Board of Medical Specialties, American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, European Society of Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy, American Society of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, International Arthroscopy Association and MENSA.
It is with great pride that we induct Dr. Edward S. Bittar into the Fort Hamilton High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame.
