Personal History

Miss Venito left Fort Hamilton in 1958 to continue her education at Hunter College with a full store of fond and treasured memories. Her preparation at the "Fort" enabled her to face the future with confidence and to explore many avenues. Miss Venito also attended Polytechnical Institute, Baruch College and teacher's College. She graduated Hunter in 1962 with a double major in mathematics and business.

In 1962, she also began her high school career as a substitute teacher at Fort Hamilton. She became a regularly appointed teacher at the Fort in September, 1964 and soon became a Pre-Admissions Adviser and Grade Adviser. In 1970 she began the Alternate Week Coop Program at Fort Hamilton.

 

Miss Venito received her Sixth-Year Certificate in Administration and Supervision from the College of Staten Island in 1972. In addition, since 1968, Miss Venito has held positions as adjunct lecturer and adjunct associate professor in the secretarial department of Kingsborough Community college.

 

Since 1970 when Miss Venito became a full-time counselor, she has excelled in that capacity both at Fort Hamilton High School and in the borough's school system. She was twice appointed a counselor at Midwood High School from 1973-78 and again in 1979. In the interim she served as the Interim Acting Supervisor of Guidance in the Brooklyn Superintendent's Office.

 

February 1980 found Miss Venito "back home" when she was appointed Assistant Principal of Guidance at Fort Hamilton High School.

 

Back at Fort Hamilton, Barbara Venito became an integral part of the core committee of alumni in 1983 that formed our current Alumni Association. She has been involved in helping and improving the Alumni Association ever since and in bringing the alumni of the Fort Hamilton High School family together again.

During the years that she has been back, she has enjoyed the thrill of becoming an honorary member of the National Honor Society; and the respect and recognition of outside organizations such as Kingsborough Community College, the feeder schools, and the Air Force. The Alumni Association now adds to those honors by inducting our good friend and loyal Fort Hamilton High School alumna, Barbara Venito, into the Alumni Hall of Fame as a charter member.
