Personal History
Born in a mining town of Kentucky, Dr. Farkouh entered Fort Hamilton High School as a tenth grader. She was a member of the Arista Honor Society, Red Cross Club, and Service League, and a recipient of the Chemistry, French, and Mathematics graduation awards. Dr. Farkouh went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree (Cum Laude) at New York University. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and was a recipient of a school scholarship and Founders Day Award. She is the wife of Charles (class of 1949) and has three children (Catherine, Charles and Stephen).
Dr. Farkouh began her career as a mathematics teacher at Port Richmond High School for nine and one half years. During this period, she received a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education and Sixth Year Certificate from Richmond College, CUNY. The next twelve years of her career were spent as Assistant Principal of Supervision in Mathematics at Prospect Heights High School and Curtis High School. Dr. Farkouh received the FHHS 1986 Alumni Award for outstanding recognition in the field of education. An author of mathematics curriculum and textbooks, she was appointed as the ninth principal and first female principal of Fort Hamilton High School on May 1, 1989. she received an Educational Doctorate in Supervisions and Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University in May 1991. Dr. Farkouh has helped to establish the first varsity and junior varsity football teams and marching band at FHHS.
Today, as principal of Fort Hamilton High School, Dr. Farkouh is the educational and motivational leader of her alma mater. Fort Hamilton's future is bright with one of our very own charting the course. It is with a deep sense of alumni pride that the Alumni Association inducts Dr. Alice B. Farkouh into the Alumni Hall of Fame as a charter member.
