KIM BIANCO

Kim graduated in 1985 and attended Rutgers University and then Hunter College, graduating with an accounting degree. She briefly worked with her father at Parsons Brinckerhoff, a prestigious engineering firm, in the international division as an accountant, and left to start a family. Dr. Alice B. Farkouh encouraged Kim to work at Fort Hamilton as a part-time substitute, where she fell in love with the classroom and students. She went back to school to get a teaching license at the College of Staten Island and then continued her education, earning a master's degree.

When she was in high school, she was a student of David Whitebook, Howard Brenner, and Steve Satin. Mr. Satin, in particular, always knew her love for math and influenced and encouraged her to become the teacher she is today. While teaching and attending school at night for her master's degree, she reacquainted herself with the pool and became an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and lifeguard. Every summer for the past 15 years, she has taught "learn to swim" classes for the Bay Ridge Aquatics Institute, a non-profit organization founded by Tom Greene. As well as coaching a few after-school swim teams, she is a lifeguard/teacher for many of the community groups that use the pool.

Both her children are USA swim team members. Her son Phillip is a senior at Fort Hamilton High School and is co-captain of the swim team, which took second place in the City last year. Her daughter Sara attends P.S. 104. Her mother, Rose Abdallah, also an alumna of Fort Hamilton High School, and her father, Eli Abdallah, have both been active members of the Fort Hamilton High School Alumni Association since its inception. Rose is currently Corresponding Secretary and Eli is a past President. Rose and Eli coordinated the alumni swim from 1993 through 2009.

Kim is an outstanding math teacher who is loved and respected by her students. She is one of the reasons that Fort Hamilton High School remains a shining example for the entire city.
