Kristi Beth Kvalheim
Student Athlete
Personal History
In honoring Kristi Beth Kvalheim by membership in the Fort Hamilton High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame we are breaking new ground. Previously, we have honored alumni only for their accomplishments after graduation. However, in honoring Kristi we are recognizing not only what she accomplished while a student at Fort Hamilton High School but also what we know she would have accomplished had she not been taken from us by a tragic illness.
Kristi was a bright light in the Fort Hamilton Class of 1995. She was a student leader who was elected senior class secretary by her classmates. Everyone who knew her was affected by her spirit, by her optimism and by her energy. She was always positive and always eager to achieve her personal best. She would also motivate others to be the best they could be.
While she loved every aspect of Fort Hamilton life, her special love was for sports. She was the captain of the girl’s varsity volleyball team and a member of the varsity tennis team as well as a member of the girl’s junior varsity basketball team. She was an inspiration to her teammates as well as to her coaches and, indeed, to all the members of the physical education department as well as all the other faculty members who knew her.
It was Kristi’s dream to become a physical education teacher and return in that capacity to Fort Hamilton High School. Tragically, she did not get that opportunity. Many alumni have returned to Fort Hamilton High School and some are now members of the Alumni Association Hall of Fame. We cannot grant Kristi’s dream of becoming a teacher at Fort Hamilton High School. However, we are grateful that we can add her to membership in our Alumni Hall of Fame. Just as her photograph and a plaque honoring her will hang for the life of the school on the entrance to the girl’s gymnasium that has been named in her honor, so too will the plaque with her photo and this tribute reside forever on the Alumni Wall of Fame on the second floor outside the library.
We will always remember Kristi and she will continue to inspire our students as well as all members of the Fort Hamilton High School family.
