MAJOR GENERAL ROBERT R. ROSE

 

​Major General Rose graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in June of 1956. In September 1956 he began his military career by enlisting in the New York Army National Guard. Attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class, he served as a soldier for eight years before entering Officer Candidate School and being commissioned in 1964.

He served as Liaison Officer, Executive Officer and Battery Commander in the 187th Field Artillery. Subsequently, he served as Assistant S-3 and Fire Support Officer at the 187th Field Artillery Battalion. He was in staff positions in the 187th Signal Group prior to taking command of the 2nd Battalion, 104 Field Artillery and the 242nd Signal Battalion. In 1986 General Rose took command of the 187th Signal Group and became the Commanding General, 187th Signal Battalion in 1987, followed by Assistant Division Commander (Maneuver) of the 42nd Infantry Division (now serving in Iraq) and Deputy Commander, Troop Command. General Rose was named Commander, New York Army National Guard in September 1995. He retired December 21, 2000 after almost 44 years of service to New York State and to his Country.

Major General Rose received an Associate in Applied Science in Mechanical Technology from New York City Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Long Island University. He is a graduate of the Artillery Officers Basic and Staff College, the Senior Tactical Battle Commander's Course and the Army War College Senior Reserve Component Officer Course.

His State decorations include: * Aid to Civil Authorities Medal

 * Long and Faithful Service Award

 * Military Commendation Medal

 * Recruiting Medal

 * Exercise Support Ribbon

He is presently the President and CEO of Rose Technology Group and Vice President of Operations, Blue Diamond Fuel Oil Corp. He lives with his wife in Brooklyn. They have three children: Kelly, Robert C. and Stephen. He and Barbara have eleven grandchildren. Kelly and husband Vito and Robert and wife Susan live in New Jersey and Connecticut, respectively, with their children.

We are indeed proud to have Major General Robert R. Rose inducted into the Fort Hamilton High School Hall of Fame.
