Purpose
The James Apicella Male Student-Athlete Award is established to
recognize a graduating senior who exemplifies excellence both on the
field of play and within the community. This award honors a young
man who balances academic rigor with athletic dedication, while
consistently demonstrating the core values that define a true leader.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following baseline criteria:
Academic Standing: Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Athletic Participation: Must be an active member of at least one varsity athletic team.
Community Involvement: Must demonstrate a documented commitment to **volunteer service and community engagement.
Selection Core Values
The successful candidate will be selected based on their ability to embody the following five pillars:
Leadership: A student who inspires his teammates, takes initiative without being asked, and serves as a positive role model in the locker room and the classroom.
Integrity: A student of high moral character who remains honest and ethical, consistently doing the right thing even when no one is watching.
Resilience: The ability to bounce back from athletic injuries, academic setbacks, or personal challenges with a positive attitude and renewed focus.
Determination: A relentless work ethic and a "never quit" mentality; a student who sets ambitious goals and pursues them with unwavering discipline.
Compassion: A person who shows genuine care for others, supports struggling teammates, and seeks to make a positive impact on the lives of those in his community.
Application Requirements:
* A brief 3 to 4 minute video describing how you have demonstrated these five pillars during your high school career.
* A letter of recommendation from a coach or athletic director.
* Verification of community service hours.
Selection Process
Winner will be announced by May 22, 2026.
